The end is in sight!

This week marks my final week at work before maternity leave. Every Sunday night I have sat in disbelief that I have to do ANOTHER week at work before I can vegetate, but tonight I can happily say that this really is the last week.

By the time I will finish I will be one day shy of 37 weeks pregnant. Initially I had asked to leave at 38 weeks. However, back when I had to confirm the date I was only 20something weeks gone and feeling fit as a fiddle! Now the situation is quite different. Thankfully I don’t think I am too unusual in massively underestimating how tired and physically strained I would be by this point. When we began the NCT sessions everyone was planning to leave work with 2 weeks before their due date. Now it’s come to it, only one of us has managed that with most of us admitting defeat and bowing out before then.

The main reason I am happy to be leaving is I just physically can’t do it anymore. By the time I have commuted in on the train, (which really isn’t that far), I could do with a kip before starting the day. The office aircon is also set to tropical so I’m a permanent sweaty mess. The poor people on my pod sit in their coats while I hold the windows fully open to get some air. Sometimes it’s snowing and I still struggle to cool off! Overall I am just too tired to think sometimes which can’t be good!

Leaving work does however make it very clear that my life is about to change in a BIG way, and that change is not far off now. The inevitability of it is only now starting to sink in. Will I be back at work in 6 months hoping for an intellectual challenge and craving adult company, or saying ‘naaaah, I’ll stay at home thanks’. Let’s see shall we?
